Jean Sue's Diary III Fishing villages and Balmoral Leaving Edinburgh for Royal Deeside and the Highlands, our indirect route north along the coast of Fife gave us a chance to see small Scottish fishing villages and a quick tour of St. Andrews, home of golf. Not too surprisingly, we saw a lot of golf courses on our trip. We had two days in Royal Deeside and checked out the gardens at Balmoral Castle. The Queen arrived the next day for a long weekend; I was glad we had checked on the flowers and made sure they were suitable for her stay. Only one room in the Castle is open to the public but the grounds are lovely. We stayed in Ballater and went up to Braemar and the Linn of Dee. This is another beautiful area in Scotland; one can see the attraction of the River Dee and its countryside with the Grampian Mountains for Queen Victoria. Up here, the weather got a tad chilly (in the 30s at night) and it was quite windy. |
